I am Oliver Trogemann and I am a game designer specialized in the creation and design of user interfaces. But I am not only specialized, but also very passionate about this! Why? Actually this didn't happen as straightforward as it may sound!
My adventure in game development started as Texture Artist working on a sports title for the pc platform. Back then I actually quit my prior job at a nice little internet agency in the heart of cologne, that I took on right after studying, just to enter a -real- game development project. From there I went through various positions and responsibilities such as Texture Artist, Concept Artist, Lead Concept Artist, UI Artist and Head of Art, which is my current role at Bigpoint Hamburg.
These were all great experiences and a lot of fun, but there has been a certain recurring factor: the time and passion invested into interface design! The last couple of years allowed me to meet many talented and interesting people from all over the world, most of them passionate and enthusiastic about what they do. Each evolving into their areas of expertise, mine turning out to be the design of user interfaces!
Having said that, responsibilities have changed in recent years. Current responsibilities include guiding art directors, hiring, art & artist reviews (~80), art direction pitches/ new projects, art pipeline reviews, budget management, support of external studios, art community meet-ups for each of the disciplines 3D, Concept and UI.
As facilitator I am connecting departments and people with similar challenges. I also continue to help improve the company’s payment process and provide guidance to internal projects and our external studios in Lyon and Berlin.
With currently 3 different engines, 10+ projects for mobile to pc and across the casual to core I am facing a wide spectrum of interface paradigms. Focus group tests, interactive surveys, rapid prototyping, user tracking and user tests leading to better overall performance are tools I have been involved in. With support from UX architects and business intelligence specialists, we improved usability gaps and ease of use. I continue expanding my knowledge in studies and workshops.
Following game companies through challenging times and gathering insight into internal processes and people taught me: Change and challenges bear opportunities. I aim to be a supporting manager, people oriented, listening, encouraging creativity, risk taking and provoking innovation. My early entrepreneurial experience taught me endurance and self-efficiency - but also resilience and recovery from failu
