Head of Central Art Department – Strategic Leadership, Optimization & Culture Building

Led the central art department through a period of significant growth, optimization, and transformation, overseeing a multi-disciplinary team of 60+ concept, 2D, and UI artists. Reporting directly to the Creative Director, I worked to balance creative enthusiasm with critical, strategic oversight—building an art culture that thrived alongside modern challenges such as outsourcing and rapid scaling.

Key Responsibilities and Achievements:

  • Direct report to the Creative Director, acting as a strategic partner and critical voice for artistic quality and process innovation

  • Led weekly art reviews for a growing team of 27 UI, 2D, and concept artists, driving continuous quality improvements

  • Actively supported talent acquisition, recruitment recommendations, and artist onboarding

  • Provided creative direction and guidance for both new and live product initiatives

  • Delivered art direction for major pitches involving globally recognized IPs

  • Conducted artist development planning, performance evaluations, and career progression support

  • Optimized UI pipelines and documentation processes for greater efficiency and scalability

  • Designed and delivered internal training programs for 2D and UI artists, focusing on upskilling and knowledge sharing

  • Directed the redesign and improvement of sensitive touchpoints, including payment flows and board design

  • Developed best practices, reusable templates, and internal standards to elevate overall production quality

  • Delivered weekly strategic reports and critical assessments directly to studio leadership

  • Fostered a strong, resilient art community, enhancing internal culture, visibility, and cross-functional collaboration

  • Partnered closely with management, product teams, HR, developers, and UX to align creative output with business needs

  • Led risk evaluations and optimizations within the art pipeline to ensure sustainable, scalable production models

Reflection: Evolving Through Experience

Leading a diverse and expanding art department presented multifaceted challenges—from integrating outsourced teams to standardizing creative processes across projects. Navigating these complexities honed my ability to balance strategic oversight with empathetic leadership.
